Itinerary

Day 1: Ulaanbaatar

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar and transfer to your hotel. After a brief rest, enjoy an afternoon city tour including Gandan Monastery, Sukhbaatar Square, and the National History Museum. In the evening, attend a welcome dinner featuring traditional Mongolian cuisine and a cultural performance showcasing throat singing, contortion, and traditional music. Briefing about the upcoming horse trek. Overnight at a comfortable hotel in Ulaanbaatar.

Day 2: Ulaanbaatar to Amarbayasgalant Monastery

After breakfast, drive north to Amarbayasgalant Monastery (approximately 5-6 hours), one of Mongolia's largest and most important Buddhist complexes. Enjoy lunch en route. Arrive at the monastery in the afternoon and explore this architectural masterpiece set against a stunning mountain backdrop. Learn about Mongolian Buddhism and the monastery's fascinating history. Meet your horsemen and the horses that will accompany you on this journey. Overnight in a ger camp near the monastery.

Day 3: Horse Trek Begins - Selenge River Valley

Begin your horseback adventure with a riding orientation and safety briefing. Set off along the beautiful Selenge River valley, Mongolia's largest river system. Ride through meadows dotted with wildflowers and past traditional nomadic encampments. Your experienced guides will teach you about Mongolian riding techniques and horse care. Stop for a picnic lunch in a scenic spot. In the afternoon, continue riding to our riverside camp. Total riding time: 4-5 hours. Overnight in a tented camp by the river.

Day 4: Horse Trek to Bulgan Mountains

After breakfast, continue your horse trek into the foothills of the Bulgan Mountains. The landscape gradually changes from river valleys to more forested terrain as you gain elevation. Visit a local nomadic family to experience their daily life and enjoy lunch with them. Learn about traditional dairy products and nomadic customs. In the afternoon, ride through beautiful larch forests to reach our camp in a mountain meadow. Total riding time: 5-6 hours. Overnight in a tented camp.

Day 5: Horse Trek to Khorgiin Togoo Volcano

Today's ride takes you toward the extinct Khorgo volcano. Navigate through a mix of forests and open grasslands with expansive views of the surrounding mountains. The terrain becomes increasingly volcanic with fascinating lava formations. Enjoy a packed lunch in the shadow of the volcano. In the afternoon, reach the base of Khorgo and set up camp. Take a guided hike to the crater rim for spectacular panoramic views. Total riding time: 4-5 hours plus hiking. Overnight in a tented camp.

Day 6: Horse Trek to White Lake (Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur)

Continue your horse trek along the volcanic fields surrounding Khorgo and head toward the beautiful White Lake (Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur). Ride through the unique landscape of basalt formations and lava fields. By midday, reach the shores of White Lake, one of Mongolia's most scenic lakes formed by volcanic activity thousands of years ago. After lunch, enjoy free time to swim in the crystal-clear waters or relax by the lakeshore. Total riding time: 3-4 hours. Overnight in a ger camp by the lake.

Day 7: White Lake Exploration

Spend the day exploring the White Lake area. Take a morning ride along the lakeshore to a scenic viewpoint offering panoramic vistas of the lake and surrounding mountains. Visit local fishermen and learn about the lake's ecosystem. In the afternoon, participate in a traditional cooking class to learn how to make buuz (Mongolian dumplings) and other local specialties. Optional horseback riding or hiking activities are available. Evening bonfire and farewell celebration with your horse guides. Overnight in the same ger camp.

Day 8: Drive to Tsetserleg

Bid farewell to your horses and horsemen as you transition back to vehicle transportation. Drive to the provincial center of Tsetserleg, a charming town nestled in the mountains (approximately 3 hours). Visit the local market and the Zayain Gegeen monastery. After lunch at a local restaurant, continue to a scenic ger camp in the Arkhangai province. Enjoy a relaxation day after your horse trek with optional short hikes in the beautiful surroundings. Overnight in a comfortable ger camp.

Day 9: Return to Ulaanbaatar

After breakfast, drive back to Ulaanbaatar (approximately 5-6 hours). Stop at a scenic spot for a final picnic lunch. Arrive in Ulaanbaatar by late afternoon. Transfer to your hotel or to the airport for your departure flight. Tour concludes.
