Morning flight from Ulaanbaatar to Khovd, the main city of Western Mongolia. Upon arrival, meet your guide and driver and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Khovd Museum to learn about the region's diverse ethnic groups and rich history. Dinner and overnight at a comfortable local hotel.
After breakfast, drive to Khar Us Lake National Park, one of Mongolia's largest freshwater lake systems and an important bird habitat. Enjoy a picnic lunch by the lakeshore and spend the afternoon exploring the lake area by boat, observing various bird species including rare relict gulls and Dalmatian pelicans. Visit a local Khoton family to experience their traditional lifestyle. Overnight in a comfortable ger camp by the lake.
Continue your journey to the impressive Mankhan sand dunes, a unique ecosystem where desert meets steppe. Hike to the top of the dunes for panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes.
